Senior Embedded Computer Vision Engineer (C/C++)

Orbotix Technologies is a boutique firm specializing in autonomous defense drones, robotics, and advanced AI. We leverage state-of-the-art engineering & software development expertise alongside deep defense domain knowledge to design and produce next-generation autonomous drone solutions for Industry, Government, and Defense.

Location: Warsaw (Hybrid – 3 days in office, 2 days remote)
Employment Type: Full-Time

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize real-time C/C++ software on embedded Linux platforms.

  • Design and implement computer vision pipelines using OpenCV for object tracking, sensor fusion, and video processing.

  • Integrate sensors (cameras, IMUs, LIDAR) with embedded platforms and optimize performance.

  • Collaborate closely with hardware teams for debugging, sensor calibration, and ensuring real-world robustness.

  • Work with AI engineers to integrate deep learning inference and computer vision solutions into the system.

  • Maintain high coding standards, conduct code reviews, and contribute to system architecture decisions.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in C/C++ development with expertise in embedded systems and real-time programming.

  • Strong experience with Linux-based development, multi-threading, and performance optimization.

  • Proficiency in computer vision libraries (e.g., OpenCV) and image processing techniques.

  • Design, develop, and optimize custom deep learning models for object detection, tracking, and visual-inertial navigation.

  • Research and prototype innovative architectures—including deep reinforcement learning—for real-time embedded applications.

  • Collaborate with embedded and computer vision engineers to integrate AI models into the drone software stack.

  • Manage the full model lifecycle: from data preparation and training to quantization and on-device deployment.

  • Stay up to date with the latest research and contribute ideas that push our technology forward.

Requirements

  • 7+ years’ experience in AI research/development, with a strong focus on computer vision and deep learning.

  • Proficiency in deep learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch) and experience with model optimization for edge deployment (e.g., TensorRT,
    ONNX).

  • Solid foundation in classical computer vision and sensor fusion techniques.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative, cross-disciplinary team.

  • Bonus: Experience with robotics, visual-inertial odometry, or deep reinforcement learning projects.

We strive to design and produce advanced autonomous drones for all your Industry, Government and Defense needs. We know what our government and defense industry clients want and aim to build bespoke equipment and software to fit their exact requirements.

Job Overview:

We are seeking a Senior AI & Computer Vision Scientist to bridge the gap between cutting-edge research and real-world deployment. This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of theory and practice — exploring novel machine learning methods while ensuring their seamless integration into our AI-driven drone platforms. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Design and implement real-time computer vision algorithms (detection, tracking, scene understanding). 
  • Optimize vision pipelines for low-latency, on-device execution using OpenCV, GStreamer, and hardware accelerators. 
  • Conduct exploratory research and develop prototypes of novel deep learning and computer vision methods. 
  • Publish research findings and represent Orbotix at leading conferences. 
  • Collaborate with engineering and ML teams to translate research into production-ready systems for autonomous drones. 
  • Contribute to the AI and vision technology roadmap, identifying emerging trends and opportunities. 

Requirements: 

  • PhD in Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Robotics, or related fields (preferred). 
  • Proven experience developing real-time computer vision systems. 
  • Strong knowledge of OpenCV and GStreamer; proficiency in Python and solid skills in C++. 
  • Track record in academic or industrial research (publications, patents, or disruptive projects). 
  • Experience with deep learning frameworks (PyTorch, ONNX, TensorFlow). 
  • Proficiency in Linux-based development environments and collaborative coding practices. 
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
